Looking for a honeymoon filled with sunny days, beaches, and good food? Montego Bay is the answer. This destination on the island of Jamaica is filled with romance and fun, the perfect getaway to kick off your life together or to celebrate a special milestone. With a colorful, local nightlife, dinner on the beachfront and a haunted mansion to explore, Montego Bay should be on your list of choices for your honeymoon.
There are plenty of places to enjoy the fresh seafood the Caribbean is known for, especially if you are staying near the Hip Strip. This area of Montego Bay is known for its dining, snorkeling and hotel options. Many of the restaurants offer fine dining right on the water and you can pair any dish with a glass of wine as you watch the sun set before taking a romantic walk along the beach. We like Marguerite’s, known for their “creative Caribbean seafood.”
Pier1 is another restaurant we recommend. Known as a date night hot-spot, this family-owned establishment offers a newlywed couple great views of the ocean where you can enjoy dinner, your favorite cocktail, and memorable sunsets. And there is always the Pelican Grill with its authentic Jamaican food if you’re looking for something different.
You can also find some entertaining nightlife on the Hip Strip at the Coral Cliff Gaming Lounge. With more than 120 slot machines and live entertainment to suit everyone’s taste, this happening hot spot on the strip is still close enough to the beach to go for a long moonlit stroll after trying your hand at the slots. If you’re still out and about when the sun comes up, stop at S Hotel’s Ska Café for some breakfast – or afternoon – snacks.
Make sure you check out Doctor’s Cave Beach. Known for its white sand and crystal blue water, the beach got its name because people once believed the beach had medicinal and therapeutic properties. It sure does, because if you don’t feel rejuvenated after being there, then you didn’t spend enough time relaxing with your loved one taking in the sunset.
Finally, take a haunted night tour of Rose Hall Great House. This venue not only has beautiful scenery and a garden perfect for a romantic walk, but it also has a chilling past.
The house is said to be haunted by Annie Palmer, the White Witch of Rose Hall. It was believed that she practiced voodoo and witchcraft. Supposedly Annie killed all three of her husbands before being murdered herself by a former lover. If you take the ghost tour, you might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Annie as she rides her horse through the garden at night.
Montego Bay is a great place to celebrate your wedding or even just to vacation. There is plenty to do – or not do – depending on what you are looking for.
If you do nothing else, at least enjoy the beach, the warm sun, and the fantastic Caribbean sunsets.
